Finished flowerIt’s more than halfway through National Crochet Month, and I haven’t posted a single thing about crochet! It’s been a busy month so far. Over the course of a week, our weather went from snow to a sunny 75 degrees to high winds and a tiny amount of rain. I’ve planted seedlings (more on that later) and helped with a fundraiser for the local animal adoption group.

I couldn't find a button I liked for this flower, so I stitched some pearl beads in the middle instead.

I’ve been working on a crochet project, but it’s a gift, so I can’t post about it yet. Instead, I’ve got a flower for you! I saw one similar to this on Pinterest, but I couldn’t find a pattern, so I worked this one up. I used several different kinds of yarn and hook sizes, depending on the flower I was making. This is the first time I’ve written up a pattern for anyone but me, so let me know if you come across any problems. Enjoy!

Start with a magic circle. If you don’t like magic circles, or don’t know how to make one, chain 4 and join to form a ring. Work 5 single crochet in the circle/ring.Magic CircleRow 1, blo

Working in back loops, single crochet and chain 3 in each single crochet around. This forms the base of the back row of petals.

Row 3Back petal

The back row of petals is made with rows 2 through 4. Each back row petal is begun with a chain 3, then 6 double crochet worked around a chain 3 space from row 2, then another chain 3 that is joined back to the chain 3 from row 2. This keeps the petals separate.
